I give out my business card… a lot.  They look at the art on the back; a painting I created some years back, then flip it to see my tag line:  Artist – Adventurer – Entrepreneur.

The ‘Artist’ part is easy to explain.  I’ve been an abstract acrylic artist for almost 20 years now.  Having sold over 100 paintings, I have achieved some level of success.  But being an artist is an avocation for me.  Perhaps someday I’ll live off the proceeds of my art sales, but like many other fine artists, not today.

That brings us to ‘Adventurer’.  One year, I wanted to do something special for my birthday. The thought of a dinner party or a novelty sweater just didn’t do it for me.  I wanted to do something bold; something that would leave me with a feeling… I did that!  I decided to do a trek and not just any trek.  I connected with an outfit that would empower me to white water raft on class IV rapids then trek four days over the Andes to Machu Picchu!  The rafting part went fine.  Then it came time to tackle the Inca Trail. I trained (not enough!) and dragged my overweight body along the trail and through the mountains for four days camping each night along the way.  Did I mention, up to that point I had NEVER camped!  I was indeed stretching the envelope of my abilities.  But it was all worth it that one fine day when I made the final ascent to walk through The Gate of the Sun and see before me in all its splendor the once lost city of Machu Picchu.  I fell to my knees and cried with joy.

The years that followed were spent building small but profitable businesses.  As an innovative creator, I can see opportunity where others just see the work.  Perhaps it’s my background watching so many football games (my father was a professional player, then a coach), but I have an eye for seeing an opening.  I can also walk into chaos and see what systems and processes are needed to move things forward.  These are both talents that lend themselves favorably to building businesses in a way that is sustainable.

Nowadays when I’m asked what I do, I prefer to answer with who I am.  I am an Artist, an Adventurer and an Entrepreneur, helping businesses build their brand through content management and optimize their talent providing administrative support.
